Demolition started
The demolition of the iconic old V&D building in Schalkwijk, Haarlem, has started, clearing the way for the 23Stories new construction project. The old building, which played an important role in the shopping center for many years, is making way for a modern complex that meets the large regional demand for housing near high-quality amenities.
23Stories includes the construction of 162 various types of homes with floor areas ranging from 50 to 145 m². Various commercial facilities will be included on the first floor in addition to the entrance to the residences. With this, 23Stories is not only an answer to the housing shortage, but also contributes to improving the quality of life in Schalkwijk.
In addition, parking facilities and a library will be built on the site of the old V&D building. The addition of restaurants (including on the square), retail spaces and social facilities such as a library will make the area more attractive for residents and visitors, contributing to a lively and versatile center.
23Stories is an important step in the renewal of Schalkwijk. It is in line with the vision of the City of Haarlem to develop sustainable and inclusive urban areas where living, working and recreation come together. It promises to give Schalkwijk a modern look and contribute to a vibrant living environment. In the coming years, local residents and business owners will see the transformation take place, from an abandoned storefront to a dynamic center that meets the wants and needs of current and future generations.
