Demolition started

The demolition of the iconic old V&D building in Schalkwijk, Haarlem, has begun, paving the way for the new construction project 23Stories. The old building, which played an important role in the shopping center for many years, is making way for a modern complex that meets the high regional demand for housing near quality amenities.

23Stories includes the construction of 162 diverse types of homes with areas ranging from 50 to 145 m². On the ground floor, in addition to the entrance of the residences, various commercial facilities will also be included. 23Stories is not only a response to the housing shortage, but also contributes to improving the livability in Schalkwijk.

Additionally, parking facilities and a library will be built on the site of the old V&D building. By adding hospitality (including to the square), retail spaces, and community facilities such as a library, the area becomes more attractive to residents and visitors, contributing to a vibrant and diverse center.

23Stories is an important step in the renewal of Schalkwijk. It aligns with the vision of the municipality of Haarlem to develop sustainable and inclusive urban areas, where living, working, and recreation come together. It promises to give Schalkwijk a modern appearance and contribute to a vibrant living environment. In the coming years, local residents and entrepreneurs will witness the transformation from an abandoned store into a dynamic center that meets the desires and needs of current and future generations.
